What Is FDM 3D Printing?

FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) is the most common type of 3D printing. Your printer melts plastic filament and deposits it layer by layer to build a 3D object. The filament is the “ink” — it comes on a spool, feeds into your printer’s hot end, and gets extruded through a nozzle. 1.75mm refers to the diameter of the filament strand, the standard size for most home and prosumer FDM printers. If your printer takes 1.75mm filament, this spool will work with it.

PET vs PETG — What’s the Difference?

PETG is PET (the plastic used in water bottles) with Glycol added. That one change makes a big difference for 3D printing:

Property PET PETG
Printability Difficult — brittle, moisture-prone Easy — forgiving and reliable
Flexibility Rigid, brittle Semi-flexible, impact resistant
Warping Prone to warping Minimal warping
Moisture resistance Absorbs moisture easily More moisture resistant
Transparency Clear Clear to slightly hazy
Best used for Bottles (industrial only) Functional parts, outdoor use, enclosures

Bottom line: PETG is the print-ready upgrade over raw PET. It’s tougher, easier to print, and far more practical for FDM 3D printing. Raw PET filament is rarely sold — when you see PETG, that’s the right choice.

Compatible Printers

Standard 1.75mm filament compatible with all major FDM printers including:

  • Bambu Lab — A1, A1 Mini, P1P, P1S, X1, X1C, X1E
  • Creality — Ender 3 (all variants), Ender 5, CR-10 series, K1, K1 Max
  • Prusa — i3 MK3S+, MK4, Mini+
  • Anycubic — Kobra series, Vyper, Mega series
  • Elegoo — Neptune series and FDM models
  • Flashforge — Adventurer series, Creator Pro
  • Artillery — Sidewinder X2, Genius Pro
  • Sovol — SV06, SV07
  • KINGROON — KP3S, KP5L series (native fit)
  • Any FDM printer accepting 1.75mm filament with a standard spool hub!

PETG Highlights

  • 100% zero air bubbles — smooth, consistent extrusion every print!
  • Tangle-free winding — no mid-print snags or jams!
  • Eco-friendly formulation — good toughness with reduced environmental impact!
  • High transparency & gloss — excellent for clear or semi-transparent prints!
  • Impact & acid/alkali resistant — great for functional, outdoor, or mechanical parts!
  • No warping or cracking — excellent dimensional stability!

PETG Print Settings

  • Print temp: 230–250°C (446–482°F)
  • Bed temp: 75–85°C (167–185°F) — use adhesive if printing without heat!
  • Print speed: 50–100 mm/s | Retraction: 1mm @ 20mm/s
  • Density: 1.17–1.24 g/cm³

Printing Tips

  • PETG benefits from a heated bed — 75–85°C gives the best adhesion!
  • Use a glue stick or hairspray on an unheated bed if needed!
  • Dry at 65°C (149°F) for 6–8 hours if moisture is suspected!
  • Store in a dry environment with desiccant after opening!
